To support the intentional, equitable, and long-term growth of the Black music ecosystem, BLK SCL! will provide targeted learning and development opportunities for Black music creators and industry professionals across the North and the devolved nations.
The consultation evidence across the sector highlights barriers to entry, precarious self-employment, and persistent pay gaps. L'ATELIER prioritises progression routes — building skills, confidence, and capacity while removing structural barriers to access.
In Year One this will include 1 x part-time Junior Product Manager role at BLK SCL! SOUND, funded by MUSICFUTURES; a Black music industry professional incubator project in partnership with Generator; a series of writing camps; and a partnership with Liverpool-based Noise Music Project to deliver an entry-level future Black music industry leader programme.
In subsequent years, BLK SCL! L'ATELIER will include talent development programmes for music creators, an innovative business growth programme for music businesses for and led by Black people, a global leadership programme and much more. The focus of all this work will be on the advancement of creative, commercial and leadership skills within the music industry.
