BLK SCL! is a Black-led ecosystem supporting artists and professionals across the North of England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
After years designing, developing, and directing award-winning national and international projects — including POWER UP, Levi’s Music Project, LIMF Academy, Re:Map, Music Futures, and major-label work for BrukOut Records x Polydor Records and Decca Records (Universal) — Yaw Owusu has leveraged his experience, insights, and industry relationships to create BLK SCL!: a strategic intervention addressing systemic barriers and the historic lack of support for Black British music talent across the North of England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, opening pathways to meaningful opportunities in the UK music industry.
BLK SCL! is not simply an out-of-London label or a talent development programme — it is a multi-faceted intervention designed to drive lasting, systemic change in the music and creative industries. Comprised of three interconnected elements — a record label (SOUND), a professional network (CONNEX), and a career pathways programme (L'ATELIER) — BLK SCL! is informed by over 20 years of research, industry experience, and deep insight into the structural barriers Black British music talent face outside the London-centric music landscape.
BLK SCL! SOUND, BLK SCL! CONNEX, and BLK SCL! L'ATELIER operate as three interconnected pillars of a single ecosystem designed to rebalance power, opportunity, and infrastructure for Black music across the North of the UK and the devolved nations. L'ATELIER develops people, CONNEX connects them, and SOUND offers a way to amplify signed works or act as an incubator for talent to work on live projects. This closed-loop system ensures that talent is not only discovered, but supported, retained, and scaled — building a resilient, Black-led music ecosystem that can generate economic value, cultural legacy, and systemic change across the North, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
BLK SCL! is about the future. We invest in talent, the development of skills, training, and pathways into the industry — ensuring this and the next generation has access, knowledge, and power.
BLK SCL! is built through collaboration. We work with partners who share our commitment to equity, integrity, and long-term impact — including EMI North (Universal Music Group), MUSICFUTURES, and Mick Ross (CEO, Generator). Our partners don’t just support the work — they help build the future.
